Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day - March 2009

Happy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day to all of you!
And thanks to Carol for hosting.

This morning I took a little cruise through the yard and snapped these shots. You can click on them to see the snow better. It looks a lot like sugar coating, doesn't it?

And this was my initial reaction (fallen) to seeing
the heavy, white stuff this morning.

But I guess there really are quite a few things in bloom in the gardens.
So my spirit was lifted again, and hope is in my heart, as I call out...

Spring, where are ye?

  1. You post really shows that spring is as anxious to come to you, as you are anxious of her arrival! Helen

  3. I went back to look at my garden records for last year, and we had snow the 1st of April. Hope it does not do the same this year.

  4. Cool pictures. It's raining here right now.

  5. I love these glimpses into people's worlds. Sorry about your snow but we all know that spring will be here some day. It's so worth the wait, though, isn't it?!!!
    Thanks for stopping by my blog today.

  6. How dare that old white stuff fall on your pretty blooms. It needs to just go away till next winter.Hope it doesn't hurt the blooms.

  7. It's coming Aerie-el, it's coming! We are all anxious! I just can't wait to see your garden in bloom! It is fun to see what others grow- I get so many good ideas, because when it comes right down to it, I may have a plan with crops, but flowers or some sort of design? I'm guessing every step of the way. The day I stop learning is the day I'd get bored with gardening!

  8. Spring is coming your way. Right now it's just bursting out here, and moving farther north every day.

  9. Oh man, just like this winter to come and mess up your bloom day plans! I took my photos yesterday, otherwise they would look the same. Is that cheating? :) Happy bloom day and hope the _)(#*$ white stuff melts and is gone until next winter! How many times have I said this in just the past few weeks??!!

  10. Snow again!! Your blooms look pretty even under the white stuff. Spring has to come eventually :)

  11. Ohh... the wind and hail has just set in now! You did find some nice bloom out there though. Hope they'll hold on for sunnier days. Paula

  12. Is that a 'Wilma Goldcrest' I see in your container with the heuchera? Gorgeous!

    I'm sure by now you're really tired of snow. I'm glad your plantings are impervious and lifting your spirits. They have a way of doing that, don't they?

    And thank you for your feedback on my "hints" blog post. I appreciate it very much. Great stuff.

  13. Arie-el, spring seems to be taking her time to reach you, but your pictures are delightful, and do show that things are starting to emerge.

  14. Well your pictures are pretty and flowers are looking good even if we did get dumped on again today.
    Floods yesterday, snow today and then all afternoon it's been trying to blow a good storm in. Electric even went out - ok so it was only for about 5 seconds! That's good.

  15. Hi Aerie_el,
    I hope that snow melts soon, as lovely as it is, and your flowers aren't too damaged.

    Next month's bloom day is one that we should have lots more blooms for, and hopefully, no snow. We have had snow that late before, though.

  16. Wow! Those are really gorgeous shots of life in your garden. The dusting of snow really makes them special. Perhaps that's the last snow you'll see until next winter?!

  17. To me, flowers in the snow are much more impressive than flowers in warmer weather. Snow is one thing I never have to contend with in my garden, and I expect it would completely flummox me if it did show up.

  18. Wow. Lots going on in your area. Great blooms, even with all that snow. Is it still on the ground or did it melt already like it did here?

  19. You must have been a bit miffed to see that snow but your photos are great all the same. They say that snow is a good insulator so I imagine that all your March blooms will soon perk up when it melts :)

  20. Snow can be disheartening, but it is so lovely.

  21. Helen, anxious could be an understatement! :) Can't hardly wait.

    Flowrgirl1, yes! and thank you! And now...spring is just days away!

    ================
    Keewee, Oh, my, April 1st? Let's hope it doesn't this year!

    ===============
    Gran, we got some rain too. And then snow. Again this morning.
    Spring on Friday though...I am so ready.

    ================
    Country Girl, you are absolutely right. The plants are just as anxious for Spring's arrival as we are :)

    =================
    Lona, Me too. I left a more tender plant outside (hardy to 30 degrees), foolishly thinking it wasn't going to get so cold, and the tips of the leaves are a toast. I learned. It's in the garage now and looks mostly okay.

    =================
    Tessa, couldn't agree with you more--gotta learn something new every day! And I'm learning plenty about vegetables this year. Your operation is incredible.

    ===================
    NellJean, I'm so looking forward to it. Sunny skies today, and longer days...spring must be around the corner.

    ==================
    Karen, We had snow again last night and this morning. This is the winter that won't end. (We didn't jinx it, did we?!!) But Mother Nature will surely boot it to the curb soon. I just know it!

    ===================
    Catherine, Eventually, yes! :)

    ==================
    Paula, saw some sunbreaks today! But it's back to rain and hail now. Crazy, mixed up weather. At least it's been fun to see all the different, bright and colorful, birds coming to the suet feeders! They brighten any day.

    ===================
    Grace, you are good! And the heuchera is 'Georgia Peach' and its a real peach! My friend had one and it came thru the winter looking fabulous the entire time.

    ======================
    Karen, It's fun to see how spring is making its entry differently, and similarly, around the globe. It is approaching...albeit slowly in this area!

    =======================
    RainGardener, Our electricity went out very briefly too. It's been crazy. Lots of thundersnow lately too.

    ========================
    Sue, excellent point! Next month is sure to be a fantastic GBBD!

    =========================
    Linnea, I wish it was the last snow...more this morning and forecast next week (but who knows, that far out). At least it warms up enough during the day to have it melt. And soon, it won't be cold enough for snow to fall! Positive thoughts...keeping those positive thoughts flowing.

    ====================
    queerbychoice, I agree that snow can be lovely. But this year the novelty has worn off. It was my first GBBD too!

    ====================
    Gardeness, Snow has melted, again. We had about 2 inches this morning! And we had more thundersnow yesterday. That is still so weird to get used to. The novelty of that hasn't worn off!

    ====================
    Anna, the plants should be really happy with all the insulation they've had this winter! I'm hoping my hardy fuchsias survived--I didn't show pictures of them (so sad-looking).

    ===================
    Nancy, yes, absolutely. Sigh...
