'Tis the Plant Sale Season

The plant sale season is really heating up, much faster than our weather this year! And in preparation for the growing season,  there are plenty of upcoming sales in the Seattle area, north and south,
from British Columbia to Oregon. There is sure to be something for everyone, even the pickiest of hort-heads out there.

Here are a few images of the plants I scored at previous plant sales, along with links to sales this year.
(Please click on the images to see them in more detail.)

 Eryngium (Sea Holly)

Quite a few of the plants in the above photo
actually survived the winter this year.
All were purchased from various vendors at FlorAbundance,
an annual sale to raise funds to support the Washington Park Arboretum.
Their sale takes place on April 30 and May 1.

Lake Wilderness Arboretum is located in Maple Valley, south of Seattle.
Their plant sale will be on Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7.

Ginkgo

 Hepatica americana

 Sanguinaria canadensis
(Bloodroot)
(The 3 plants above were purchased at LWA plant sales.)

The King County Master Gardener Plant Sale will be on May 7 and 8
at the Center for Urban Horticulture in Seattle, on the UW campus.

 Larix kaempferi 'Diane',
Yes, tiny right now, but will grow to be even greater!
I have purchased plenty, and I mean a lot, of other plants at this plant sale, but for the life of me, I can't find other photos of them.
Sorry...please refer to my plea for HELP in organizing my photos

Last, I will leave you with the link to the Mother Lode of information,
courtesy of the Elizabeth C Miller Library,
for plant sales in the Pacific Northwest, from BC to Oregon.

Which plant sales are you looking forward to attending?

Inquiring minds want to know...

  1. I've been going to lots of plant sales this Spring, but there are still a few coming up that I want to check out. The Pierce County Master Gardener Plant Sale is on that same April 30-May 1 weekend as the Arboretum sale. I didn't know there was one in Maple Valley, I might check that out.

The Washington Native Plant Society has a sale coming up that I went to last year, it was an excellent sale, so I'm probably going to that.

Looks like you've scored some cool plants in the past.

  2. It's so much fun to get new plants isn't it? I just order a bunch of plants, and I'm totally excited about planting them in the garden.

  3. Don't have any plans for plant sales yet. It seems the weather has dampened my shopping spirits. I'm hoping that will change soon. Your post sure got me to thinking. :)

  4. We did a lot of running around this last weekend at various plant sales and events. All this plant shopping in April seems to translate into a lot of hole digging too! ;)

  6. I do enjoy plant sales, and just can't help buying something for my garden. I'm fortunate to have a large garden to plant everything I do buy.

  7. I was really looking forward to our local Master Gardeners sale - I found so many wish list plants there last year - but I had to miss it. I was able to get a few plants and help a local non-profit at a silent auction last week, though.

  9. I am planning on attending a plant sale on May 6th...it is to buy 5 fig trees! My husband has removed one of our garden ponds and has re-done a flower bed for the trees. This is a big event for us...I love fig. A botanical garden east of me is having the plant sale and members, which I am, can attend the night before the sale is open to the public. The news letter stated they would have fig trees...I am so excited...
Wonderful fun post...it IS.plant sale time!

  10. Your new header is gorgeous! It's similar in color to the last shot. That is gorgeous too.

I'm glad to know you are a nature lover who do not kill bees nor wasps. Actually they do not simply sting. It may cause them their life to sting us.
