Wordless Wednesday--signs of life in the garden

  1. Yeah, signs of life- good post. I need to go look around in my garden too. I'm not positive, but that second picture, the little plant in the center- looks like Artillery weed. They send out long stocks with a ton of seeds on them- and when you brush up against it the seeds go flying everywhere- nasty weed! I have them too after weeding my elderly ladies front bed one year...a few years ago!

  2. Tessa, you got that right...it's a WEED! (Blah!) I did a post last year about it (http://gardeners-roost.blogspot.com/2008/03/shot-weed-bane-of-my-gardens-and-me.html) and they're coming back strong again this year! They are prolific, aren't they?!

  3. Um, heather, popping weed, sedum, daffodils, and wild ginger, or is it cyclamen?? How did I do? Evil popping weed, it's EVERYWHERE already but still too small to pull very easily, especially with frozen/soggy fingers. Ugh. Love the others, though! Happy almost spring!

  4. Karen, A+! The last is a sweet little cyclamen that popped up in a different location, a bit of a way from where it was originally planted. It 'migrated' sometime when the area was flooded. Speaking of flooding...it sounds like a deluge out there now! Yikes.

  5. I wondered what the first one was. So it is Heather.I like the looks of it and the texture.

  6. Yeah for signs of life! That's pretty interesting that your cyclamen moved. I wonder if any will pop up where you originally planted it?
I have tons of that weed. I spent last weekend pulling it, perfect name for it.

  7. Lona, I bet there are hardy heaths/heathers that would grow where you live. They are nicely behaved plants :).

Catherine, I'll be looking to see where else the cyclamen pops up! And I have another banner crop of those darn weeds. Argh.

  8. Aerie_el:

Such wonderful signs of spring.... I'd almost forgot what the rich darkness of soil looked like, thanks for the reminder. I especially love the cyclamen with the almost perfect imprint of a Christmas tree in the centre of it's leaf! Divine!

  9. This are great pics. I'm so happy things are starting to pop up. Hey, you're still not showing on my list of followers, even though you may see it on your list of who you follow. This is such a hassle, no? I think you need to stop following, then follow again. That's what I had to do to get back on yours.

  10. Isn't it exciting? I just came in from a walk around the yard and there are signs here, too, although it will be a few weeks before it really looks like it unless you look closely.

The lilacs all have swollen buds, as do several other shrubs. :-)

  11. Teza, ...or maybe a...
maple leaf...dedicated to all my Canadian friends?!! :)

Gardeness, no trouble at all. It is done and I am back to following you too. Yay!

Kylee, It is, it is, so exciting! (happy dance) What fun to see the swollen buds of plants just waiting for their moment to emerge! One of my plants in its full glory now is the sarcacocca. Though the flowers aren't much to look at...oh, the scent is just heavenly.

  12. Oh yes. The signs of spring. Gotta love that bitter cress. I've got tons of that noxious, tenacious devil-plant growing on a patch of bare ground that never did receive its winter mulch. Bad me. Thankfully they're not spewing their seed around yet.

  13. What a hopeful sign! And tonight, I'm freezing. It's cold!

  14. Grace, I know, I'm bad too! I'm looking into getting a ton of bark this year, soon! I have many beds and bare areas to cover and protect from these evil weeds.
And the first warm day, I'll be out there ripping 'em out.

Gran, it is sooooo cold! What happened to the lovely spring-like weather? Heard there's SNOW to the north and SNOW to the south, but thankfully it's not falling here.
    Stay warm!

  16. Q, sure enough there were signs of spring and then, wouldn't you know, last night we had about 4 inches of snow fall! This morning schools are delayed, roads are horrible, and it's another winter day in a place that doesn't 'do' winter well! Harrumph, spring can't arrive too soon...

  17. I'm behind in m blogging. Lovely signs of life! It's time for regular yard walks, once the snow melts here.
