Through the Fog...and into the New Year

My sincere thanks to all of you who have left good wishes,
caring thoughts, and prayers. I continue to think of you,
wish I could spend more time with you and your blogs,
and sooo appreciate the incredible kindness
among gardeners, bloggers, and garden bloggers.

Until now, I couldn't bring myself to write about
what has been happening.
I still feel like I'm walking through fog,
unable to fathom what lies ahead
but treasuring the memories behind...

My unplanned break began in November, which oddly enough
is "pancreatic cancer awareness month".
We were hit with "awareness" beyond what any of us wanted.
Surgeons found my mother has pancreatic cancer,
for which she is now charting her course of action.

I was back 'home' with Mom and family on Cape Cod for Nov-Dec,
during which time I snapped some photos of popular locations.
Those places bring back fond memories,
and it lifts my spirits to share them with you here.
Perhaps you've even been to some of them!
(Click on a photo to enlarge it.)
(No, I was not paid to include information about the places below.)

Cape Cod Beaches

Birds of a feather seek warmth during a cold winter's day.

Traffic on route 28...
imagine what it's like during warm weather!

Perhaps they are headed to...

Pirate's Cove putt-putt golf next door

This Cuffy's store, no more...
a sad reflection of the economy.

Ahh, coffee...
or perhaps some ice cream at...

Friendly's, just off Route 6...
or head to browse at...

Christmas Tree shop (gotta love a bargain!).
If you're bored with that, perhaps a stop at...

Captain Parkers and the Zooquarium (on right).
All done?
Then head to the airport via...

Results of the Big Dig ;)

Looking back on my visit,
with a view of the...

Serene sky and sturdy oak tree.
It brings back to mind a song from '85,
Oak Tree
(by Morris Day and the Time)
Beware of clicking on this link, you may break out in dance
and/or end up with an earworm...

Wishing you best wishes for a very
Happy and Healthy New Year!

  1. Happy New Year. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs to you all.

  2. Aerie-el I am so sorry to hear about your Mother having to deal with cancer. I know how very hard this will be on you and your family - I just recently lost my Dad with Leukemia. At his age any treatment would have been to harsh so we just spent as much precious time with him as we could before he left us. Like you, I missed a lot of blogging time because our sick parents are at the top of our priority list.
I hope that 2010 will be as good as it possibly can for you and your family considering what you will be going through.
Our thoughts and prayers will be with all of you.
Your pictures of the Cape are beautiful - I especially love that foggy one.

  3. Aerie-el
It is wonderful to have you back amongst us, even if it is only for a short respite. I am sorry to hear of your Mother's illness - but having a caring and trusting daughter must help fill her with joy, peace and inner strength. The first photo is what I have been missing in your absence..... no words are needed! Wishing you yourself peace and inner strength. Drop by Blotanical when you need a laugh or a shoulder or an ear!

  4. Oh no, I am so sorry to hear about your mother's illness! My thoughts are with your family and you must surely feel like 2009 has not been your favorite. I hope you mom can find some super treatment that can give her an extension on life and all of her loved ones some more time to spend together. Sending good thoughts your way, my dear.

  5. So sorry to hear about this. I know she was glad to have you back there close. Wishing you all the best in this difficult situation.

  6. I'm glad to see you back. I'm really so sorry to hear about your Mom. My Mom went through Ovarian Cancer 7 years ago, she is doing great now, but I know how shocking it is to hear your parent is sick. I will send lots of positive healing thoughts and prayers her way.
I loved hearing the Morris Day song!

  7. Aerie-el,

So sorry to hear that your mother is ill- I will be praying for your mother and family too. Having a scare dealing with the big 'C' myself- I know it's terrifying.

Your images are beautiful- wish I could visit there one day :)

  8. Love the photo tour. I could just stare at that foggy pic all day!

Glad you are back in bloggyland. It's always so nice to see you here.

I'm beaming positive vibes your way for a wondrous 2010.

    xo! :)

  9. Hi Aerie-el! I am a bit late, sorry. I want to wish you and your family all the best possible in 2010. I hope it will be kinder and healthier than the previous year.

  10. Hey Aerie-el here is Mike from germany again. I´m sad about the illness of your mother, We have the same in our family right now.
When I saw your photos of Cap Cod I got memories again, from that time we had been there. And the BIG DIG, I will see in april again, when I visit NYC and Boston again. Your first photo goes deep under my skin, excellent - Mike
