Yellow Fuzzy

So yesterday I saw this little guy crawling along the driveway.
(Click on the images to enlarge them.)

He was so cute and fuzzy, I just wanted to run my finger over him.
But I didn't. Instead I took a couple of photos of him.

Does anyone know what type caterpillar this is?
I found a cool website to help ID it,
but none it came up with
were found in the Pacific Northwest.
So I'm calling it 'Yellow Fuzzy'.
For now. Anyway.

What do you think?

  1. Through some helpful digging by some Facebook friends, we found it is a Yellow Woolleybear Caterpillar (Spilosoma virginica) that changes into a moth. Here's a link that tells a little about it:

(I still like 'yellow fuzzy' ;)

  3. I just found one today. He was crawling on my shoulder. I don't know where I picked him up, so I grabbed leaves from all over the garden and put them all in a big clear container.
He's happily munching away on some ornamental leaves from a gifted plant.
    So cute
