Aliens at the Flower and Garden Show!

(Click on any of the images to see them bigger,
and maybe even scarier in the case of the 'Aliens' below!)

Look, they're here! And displayed proudly at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show in Seattle. You can even see the lights from their spaceship above!

This was one of the beautiful floral arrangements.
It won an award.
Perhaps not a 'major award' the likes of which Mr Parker received in
A Christmas Story, but still, it won an award!

Who said you can't wear purple and red together?
They look gorgeous here, don't you think?

And here are the treasures that I found and couldn't pass by.
The poster was FREE and who doesn't love a bargain like that? :)

Did you attend? What were your take-home treasures?

  2. Loved those cobra lily "aliens" too! Hee hee. You got some cool stuff - what is that, a rake or an ornament? Where did the tool basket come from, if that's what it is? I got a poster too. Hard to pass up free! Nice post.

  8. Very alien. I so love the display with the quilt and old stove. Just gorgeous, but what would you expect from an old country girl. Great shots.

  10. Jen, it was a long day, but worth it. I hope so too! Where else can you visit so many 'shops' and 'nurseries,' on foot, in such a short distance and comparatively small amount of time?

    Karen, after I took that photo I realized you couldn't really see the various objects- duh-oh.
    There's a bundle of Y-stakes propped up against a metal rake which has an adjustable fan head. I've already used them both too, so definitely worthwhile purchases for me.

    Sue, Thanks! All good, except now I have extra work...to get the plants in the ground! :)

    =================
    Gran, Darn, sorry you missed it too! Maybe next year, if they find a buyer or decide to continue to hold it (I hope).

    =================
    Gardeness, That would be funny if we were! Love the pix you took and posted on your blog.

    =================
    Catherine, Thanks!
    Hope you had fun at the show, and that you'll have a post about it too.

    ==================
    Tessa, watching that movie is a tradition for us too! "Quirky" is our family's middle name--LOL!

    ==================
    Lona, it was so striking, and there were 4 other sides to the display that were gorgeous as well. Each one blending the quilts, garden, and surroundings together into beautiful scenes. Made me want to pull out my stash and start sewing (and sowing in the garden!!) when I got home (except it was late, and dark:).

    Wayne, quilters and gardeners are the best! Have fun at the Philly show!

  11. Wow--what fun;)
    What is Licorace Fern like? I see a little sign there next to it. I love Hyssop which smells like licorace; I need to check into this one, I'd love to grow it!

    I wonder what goodies you have in those little bags? Bulbs, tubers, etc? Looks like you had a great time!
    PS I thought I had you on my google followers list all this time...I just found out I didn't. Sorry:( But, you're there now:)

  15. Jan,
    From what my friend (who is a Native Plant Steward) told me, and what I've since learned (from a fantastic book, Plants of the Pacific Northwest Coast, by Pojar & MacKinnon), the licorice fern that grows near me has rhizomes that taste like licorice. The local Native Americans used to eat it for the taste, use it medicinally for sore throats and colds, and used it as a sweetener with bitter medicines. It's a pretty fern that I see, often growing on the trees, on mountain hikes.
    In the two bags...1 contains what's sure to be a beauty, echinacea 'summer sky' and the other a pretty monarda 'coral reef'. Winners for the hummingbirds and butterflies, I hope!
    Thanks for adding me :)

    Q, Thank you! It was an amazing show again. So sad to see it go...

    ===============
    Genevieve, Sorry you couldn't join the fun up here. Hope your Mom got to attend, and tell you all about it!

    =================
    VW, It is very sad! Did you make the trek over the mountains to attend? We're hoping that if it really doesn't return, that Tacoma show grows.

  16. How cheering to have a flower show at this time of year. On this side of the pond the first one is not until April. Love the basket :) What goodies do those bags contain ?
