A Walk Through Bloedel

"Come on in!" said the dragonfly with glee.

"Do you see what I see?"

"It's my buddy in a tree."
"Woof."

Then walk along to the swamp,
But tread quietly, don't stomp.
You don't want to wake them, no, no.
They're the aliens, they're waking. Oops, hello!

Then travel to the meadow,
where fields of golden grains grow.

Continue on to the garden so zen,
where you can relax, unwind, and
feel one with the earth again.

As you cross the boardwalk of sturdy planks,
observe the seed pods and plants
once called 'skunk cabbage,'
now 'swamp lantern,' we must chant.

As the tour concludes,
we look back and see the paths
we've taken and those we've crossed,
and we're thankful we didn't get lost :)

P.S. Don't worry, you won't get lost at the Bloedel Reserve!
All paths intersect paved walkways
and all of those walkways lead back to the main entrance.
Happy trails!

  1. Aerie_el,

I DID see the dog!! OMGosh. What a great photo. And the pitcher plants (?) totally look like aliens waking up. You're so imaginative! Love it!

  6. Thanks Abe and Janet!

Grace, have you been to Bloedel before? It's a real treasure. Our guide emphasized to us that it is NOT an 'arboretum'. It is a 'reserve' and meant for enjoyment, not education. I thought that was interesting, considering so much of it is about the 'gardens'!

Catherine, the pitcher plants are so cool-looking, especially with the huge leaves of the skunk cabbage, ahem, I mean swamp lanterns nearby.

RainGardener and Bangchik, thanks, you are too kind!

LadyFi, Bloedel Reserve is on Bainbridge Island, west of Seattle, Washington, USA. There are so many gardens in the Pacific Northwest, I hope you can visit this area sometime and see them!
