In a Spider State of Mind

I've been saving this post for this time of year
because it includes spooky spiders.
Click on the pictures, but only if you want
to see the spiders up close and personal!
And now, please sit back, relax, and enjoy the web-
-blog, that is!

I think spider in the two photos above
is a male Goldenrod Crab Spider.
Click here to read more about it.

Above:
A friend who is an entomologist said that I captured the 'deed'
between this male and female garden spider.

Going their separate ways.

Yum, dinner.

Ready for the picking.

I have no idea what type spider this is above,
but it sure was pretty.

Welcome friends...bwaa-ha-ha-haaaaa.

Skywatch Friday - Miles and Miles

The sea is vast. The sky appears endless.
A lone seagull sits on the rock.
Why.
To rest or...
Dinner plans?

Click on the photo above (or any photo) to enlarge it,
and you will see purple starfish on the rock.
The photo below was taken of another rock,
and while the sea stars are quite recognizable,
the other creatures there are unknown to me.
And sorta creepy-looking, in my opinion anyway!

 Starfish. AKA sea stars.
Are Sea Stars like the Scarecrow in Wizard of Oz
and wish they had a brain?
When you touch them, do you call it a Spinal Tap?
Is the Leather Sea Star made of leather?
What eats starfish? What do starfish eat?
Get those answers and many more when you
click here to see how stuff works with Starfish Life.

Another place to see stars...in the garden!

Dahlias - are they divas?

A fellow gardener opened his dahlia gardens to a group of us to wander and cut flowers. As we did this, he shared with us some of his knowledge about growing and propagating these beautiful flowers.
Here is a small sampling of the 80 or so varieties he grows.
(Please click on the photos to enlarge them.)

I think you'll agree that they are some kinda gorgeous flowers.

But are they divas, or just plain delightful?

Skywatch Friday - Eagles in the Sky

It's been a while since I've posted pictures
of 'our' eagles here on the lake,
so I thought I would share these for Skywatch Friday.

(Click on the pictures to enlarge them.)
I liked the above and below photos because they included
both the eagles in the sky and the one on the top of the flagpole.

Plus, I found the cloud formations to be interesting.

And this shot, above, is of a helicopter and eagle. The helicopter was from a local news station. It arrived to shoot footage of the rescue of a drowning man by two 15 year-old residents.
They revived the man using CPR
until paramedics arrived on the scene.
The man was then transported to the hospital
and the teens lauded for their heroic efforts.

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are!

Yellow Fuzzy

So yesterday I saw this little guy crawling along the driveway.
(Click on the images to enlarge them.)

He was so cute and fuzzy, I just wanted to run my finger over him.
But I didn't. Instead I took a couple of photos of him.

Does anyone know what type caterpillar this is?
I found a cool website to help ID it,
but none it came up with
were found in the Pacific Northwest.
So I'm calling it 'Yellow Fuzzy'.
For now. Anyway.

What do you think?

Flower Focus Friday or GBBD part deux

As I visited other people's blogs on GBBD
I saw colors galore!
I realized most of the flower blooms
I posted that day were
in a very limited color palate.
Yet there are plenty more colors
that deserve recognition, so here are a few.
Lights, camera, close up...
(Please click on the images to see them really close up!)

Sedum

Nasturtium

Coreopsis

Echinacea

Guess!

Yet another sunflower.

Hope your day is all sunshine and flowers!
